Birth Registration and Birth Certificate

On day 38 after my birth, mama and papa sent me to grandparent's home. That was the first time I stayed out overnight. It was because they had to register my birth and get me the birth certificate on the following day. They finally confirmed my name...first name: Magalie & middle name: Ngo-lam not Megan, Pearl, Katrina, Cheuk-lam or Ching-lam. In that morning, they woke up early and stood in a long long queue in order to get a morning quota tag; however, they could only get the afternoon quota tag. That means they had to go back to the immigration department again at 15:00. As papa needed to work, he let mama to do the remaining procedures alone.

Mama said she barely could do the task successfully because papa forgot to give her his copied ID card. The staff expressed that nothing could be done without it; nicely, she suggested my papa to fax it to the department and continue the registration. If not, mama must get angry. Finally, mama registered my birth (no charge within 42 days of the birth) and got me two copies of birth certificate (HK$140 each).

Because of me, papa and mama haven't relaxed themselves for a while. Therefore, before picking me up that evening, papa and mama went to watch a movie "Mama Mia" and bought the takeout sharing with grandparents. Papa mama, please keep up your efforts for taking good care of me after this time's relaxation, ok?

Cord Blood 臍帶血

Cord blood, which contains rich source of stem cells, can be found in the umbilical cord and placenta. Stem cells are capable of producing blood and regenerating immune system when transferred into people who need transplantation to treat cancer or blood diseases.

In some respects, cord blood stem cells are a better option than bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells. It's because of their immaturity that are less likely to attack other cells of the body and decreases the side effects arising from transplantation. Besides, it is rather easier to extract, higher matching rate, and immediate availability (by banking your own cord blood).

In Hong Kong, there are four private cord blood banks: Cordlife (HK$28,000 for 18 yrs) , Cryolife(HK$33,000 for 18yrs), HealthBaby (HK$31,800 for 18yrs), and Smart Cells (HK$22,500 for 25yrs). Among these four companies, the first three are commonly well-known. Sadly that the private cord blood banking service is not available to the pregnant women who decide to give birth in public hospital. However, if the parturients plan to deliver the baby at Kwong Wah Hospital or Queen Elizabeth Hospital and also wish to donate cord blood helping others, they may contact Hong Kong Red Cross, which will carry out the examination for the parturient ensuring her suitability for donation and deploys trained nurse to collect cord blood.

No matter of banking cord blood in private company or donating cord blood to Hong Kong Red Cross, cord blood shall be collected right after the birth of the newborn. Then it shall be transported to the laboratory for testing, processing, and banking.

香 港 現 有 四 間 私 營 臍 帶 血 庫︰ 康 盛 人 生 (HK$28,000 儲 存 18 年)，生 命 之 緣 (HK$33,000 儲 存 18 年)，生 寶 臍 帶 血 庫 (HK$31,800 儲 存 18 年)，和 Smart Cells (HK$22,500 儲 存 25 年)。 前 三 間 臍 血 庫 均 較 大 眾 所 為 認 識。 可 惜 的 是 這 些 私 營 臍 血 庫 不 能 提 供 服 務 於 決 定 在 公 共 醫 院 分 娩 的 孕 婦 。 倘 若 孕 婦 打 算 在 廣 華 醫 院 或 伊 利 沙 伯 醫 院 分 娩 及 希 望 捐 贈 臍 帶 血 幫 助 他 人， 她 們 可 與 香 港 紅 十 字 會 聯 絡。 紅 十 字 會 便 替 孕 婦 做 檢 查 ， 以 確 定 是 否 適 合 捐 贈 臍 帶 血 。 當 生 產 時， 該 會 就 會 派 工 作 人 員 進 入 產 房 收 集 捐 贈 者 的 臍 帶 血 。

不 論 把 臍 帶 血 存 放 於 私 營 臍 血 庫 或 捐 贈 臍 帶 血 給 香 港 紅 十 字 會，收 集 臍 帶 血 應 在 嬰 兒 離 開 母 體 及 剪 斷 臍 帶 後 進 行，然 後 把 它 運 送 到 實 驗 室 進 行 檢 驗 、處 理、及儲 存。

亦 師 亦 友

他 是 誰 ? 他 以 前 是 我 細 舅 父 的 中 學 同 學 , 後 來 更 慘 變 為 我 和 我 細 佬 嗰 家 庭 教 師 囉 ! 佢 好 好 人 嫁 , 又 講 得 笑 又 玩 得 。 每 次 我 同 我 細 佬 掛 住 整 蠱 佢 又 不 肯 做 功 課 或 溫 書 時 , 他 都 總 是 好 聲 好 氣 地 叫 我 們 乖 乖 地 聽 話。我 哋 試 過 將 一 粒 極 似 話 梅 的 花 崗 岩 石 撈 埋 落 樽 話 梅 到 俾 佢 食...哈 哈... 佢 中 計。我 哋 又 試 過 俾 一 杯 混 有 豉 油 嘅 可 樂 俾 佢 飲...嘻 嘻...佢 又 中 計。佢 都 冇 鬧 過 我 哋。佢 只 係 話 " 教 不 嚴 , 師 之 惰 " 。 實 情 句 嘢 嘅 真 正 意 思 係 點 解 , 我 到 今 時 今 日 都 未 好 清 楚 呀 !

不 過 佢 雖 然 冇 鬧 過 我 哋 , 但 記 得 有 一 次 佢 發 脾 氣 走 咗 去。 那 次 佢 應 該 係 喺大 學 放 學 心 情 唔 好 , 跟 住 來 我 家 保 習 , 我 哋 又 整 蠱 佢 ... 唔 開 門 俾 佢 , 擾 攘 了 十 多 分 鐘。 結 果 他 走 了 返 屋 企 , 跟 住 打 電 話 話 俾 我 哋 知。

現 在 他 已 有 個 樣 貌 好 似 他 嘅 女 兒 名 叫 Maggie , 據 知 他 的 女 兒 很 愛 玩 呢 ! 希 望 baby Maggie 日 後 有 我 同 我 細 佬 咁 精 靈 , 但 又 會 乖 乖 孝 順 佢 爸 爸 媽 媽 啦 ! 否 則 我 呢 位 亦 師 亦 友 只 可 改 口 講 句 " 養 不 教 , 父 之 過 " 了 。

小學同學

Maxine 她 是 我 現 時 唯 一 仍 有 聯 絡 的 小 學 同 學。 雖 然 我 們 並 不 是 時 常 見 面 , 但 每 當 我 見 到 她 時, 便 會 有 一 種 特 別 的 感 覺 ... 不 知 那 是 親 切 感 還 是 老 朋 友 聚 舊 那 種 無 拘 無 束 自 然 感 呢 ?!

她 雖 是 我 同 學, 但 亦 是 兩 個 小 孩 的 母 親 了。 大 仔 也 應 有 4-5 歲, 而 細 女 也 快 將 1 歲 啦。 一 仔 一 女 幾 好 喲 ! 但 唔 知 道 兩 個 唔 同 性 別 的 小 朋 友 會 否 合 得 來 呢 ?! 還 是 生 兩 仔 或 兩 女 比 較 好 呢。 始 終 男 孩 有 男 孩 子 的 豪 邁 要 釋 放, 女 孩 有 女 孩 子 的 心 事 要 分 享。算 了 吧, 一 般 生 仔 生 女 都 不 是 我 們 可 以 話 事 喔。由 天 決 定 啦 !

如 何 與 BB 溝 通

寶 寶 自 出 世 便 透 過 五 官 與 外 界 溝 通 ， 除 了 言 語 ， 父 母 還 可 透 過 身 體 接 觸 、 表 情 和 聲 音 等 與 嬰 兒 溝 通 ， 並 可 留 意 以 下 幾 點 :

‧ 了 解 寶 寶 的 特 性 和 反 應 ， 留 意 他 的 表 情 、 語 音 ， 與 他 面 對 面 溝 通 （ 例 如 家 長 可 蹲 下 至 跟 寶 寶 平 望 ） 。
‧ 用 簡 單 的 語 句 。 可 透 過 重 複 詞 彙 及 動 作 ， 讓 寶 寶 加 深 印 象 。
‧ 利 用 一 些 色 彩 鮮 艷 的 物 料 、 不 同 質 感 及 聲 音 的 圖 書 或 玩 具 吸 引 寶 寶 。
‧ 協 助 寶 寶 表 達 並 給 與 回 應 。 例 如 寶 寶 第 一 次 見 到 小 狗 ， 咿 咿 呀 呀 的 笑 ， 用 手 指 牠 ， 家 長 便 可 對 他 說 ： 「 這 是 小 狗 ， 很 可 愛 噢 ! 」 這 除 能 協 助 孩 子 理 解 和 表 達 ， 同 時 能 令 他 感 受 到 家 長 對 自 己 的 關 注 。
‧ 雖 然 寶 寶 的 語 言 理 解 能 力 有 限 ， 但 千 萬 別 說 不 恰 當 的 言 語 。 因 為 寶 寶 是 會 漸 漸 聽 懂 的 ， 而 且 能 夠 感 受 到 說 話 者 的 情 緒 。 父 母 宜 保 持 輕 鬆 的 心 情 與 寶 寶 相 處 。 與 寶 寶 相 處 的 重 點 是 用 心 。

父 母 的 陪 伴 、 微 笑 、 擁 抱 ， 已 能 讓 孩 子 感 受 父 母 的 愛 。 多 與 寶 寶 溝 通 不 但 可 協 助 他 成 長 發 展 ， 還 能 有 效 促 進 親 子 關 係 。
